AGAMEMNON, King of Mycenae (1) |
He is the son of King Atreus of Mycenae and the brother of King Menelaus of Sparta.
He has excellent fighting techniques and tactics and has a brilliant mind like a true ruler.
The only problem about him that makes him a bit flaw, is his "ATTITUDE". Believe it or not, King Agamemnon is very stubborn. He is also referred to as a hard-headed, selfish, and arrogant kind of person.
There are some instances in the book entitled "ILIAD" wherein King Agamemnon exhibits these flaws that I found very childish and immature for a leader like him.
First of all, as far as I can remember from the book, Achaean soldiers were raiding towns near the kingdom of Troy and eventually captured two women namely,Chryseis and Briseis.
King Agamemnon told the priest namely, CHRYSES, whose daughter was taken as a prize for Agamemnon, such harsh words while he was offering a ransom in exchange of his daughter. Agamemnon declined and rudely ordered the priest to leave his sight. Since Agamemnon did not respect the plead of the priest, out of anger and despair, Chryses prayed to Apollo to shower down a curse of arrows on the Achaians if the king will still not release his daughter who is innocent and pure.
In the end, King Agamemnon has no choice but to return back the daughter of Chryses but because of his greediness, he demands something in exchange. And guess what, he wanted BRISEIS, the wife of ACHILLES. This angers Achilles because of the stubborness of King Agamemnon along with his Greediness towards women. They got themselves into a quarrel and finally, Achilles felt insulted and refused to side along with the Greeks in fighting against the Trojans.
In my opinion, King Agamemnon has such greed and less patience in his character. What he only wants is the riches of the world, and ofcourse, the most beautiful and fairest of the women. He is a hot-headed person wherein he ordered the priest to get out of his sight without any respect for the priest's dignity.
It is a SHAME to have such leader like Agamemnon and I can relate him to some leaders with this kind of issue.

Pres. JOSEPH ESTRADA |
Hmmm, I think one good example is JOSEPH ESTRADA, a very controversial president of The Philippines. He too, doesn't know how to handle his own decisions and sometimes put the country into risk. He is known to be a very popular and professional actor before thinking of entering politics. In 1998, he won the Presidency and unfortunately, he was impeached before his term ended. For him, being president is being powerful and rich. But the thing that he doesn't know, being president should serve as a good example to the people and be of service to those who needed help. In the duration of his term, he has fully enjoyed his power and eventually using the country's money just to satisfy his needs through corruption but in the end, it only led him to his impeachment in 2001.
See. I told you, I could think of someone like Agamemnon. It is a disgrace having someone to lead us if he only thinks of himself instead of his own fellowmen. A leader should be of service to everyone who needs help and not sitting on his office and enjoys the money of his fellowmen.
Thank you for reading and I'll see you in my next post!
Ciao for now!
